The Sunshine Blogger Award from Mandy

My blogging friend Mandy from “That We Might” has nominated me for this Sunshine Blogger Award! Now, I don’t always participate in these awards but her questions were irresistible and she’s really quite a dear who leaves very insightful and interesting comments. So I wanted to play along. 😉

 Rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link back to their blog so others can find them.
  • List the rules and display an award logo on your blog post.
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  • Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and notify them by commenting on any of their posts.
  • Ask the nominees 11 new questions.

Questions

  1. (In honor of September…) Where were you when you first heard about 9/11? (If you weren’t alive at the time or were too young, describe the way in which you first learned about it and your reaction. If you aren’t American, don’t feel like you’re under a microscope or your thoughts aren’t valued just as much.)
I believe I was in Grade 7 or 8 and I was at school. Our day was interrupted abruptly by the events and the teacher pulled a TV into the classroom so that we could all see what was happening in New York. I’m Canadian but I live only about an 8-hour drive or so away from that city (I think, I’ve never been). So it still hit pretty close to home.
  2. What is your favorite animal and why?
Favorite animal… Wolves, is it obvious? 😉
    Wolves
  3. If you could only have one more meal, what would it be? Multiple courses and desserts allowed and encouraged. 😉
Probably a big old plate of nachos with a side of pizza. I’m a fat kid on the inside.
  4. What is your favorite book?
One of my favorite books was David Copperfield, but Into the Wild was also huge for me. It shaped my life in big ways.
  5. Do you prefer rainy or sunny days?
I love sunny days when I’m going out and rainy days when I’m staying in. I find the rain beautiful.
  6. Why did you start your blog?
I started my blog to fend off loneliness and boredom, but also to nurture my creativity and it has worked wonders for all 3 of those areas.
  7. What was your favorite subject in school? (PE and lunch and recess are totally allowed!)
English! I bet you could have guessed that 😉 Loved to read and write.
  8. Where have you always wanted to visit?
Nepal is still the number one country on my list to visit. I want to see the Himalayan mountains so damn badly it makes my soul heart with yearning. If any of my readers are rich, please take me on a trip with you. 😀
    white concrete houses
  9. What historical person inspires you the most?
That would have to be… Maybe Albert Einstein because he’s a straight-up genius but he was also sort of an activist for peace and tried to better humanity in many ways. Some countries, if I recall, had even offered to make him their leaders or wanted him to run for election. It’s been a while since I’ve read about him.
  10. Do you know any other languages, and if not, what language would you want to learn?
Je peut parler francais une petite peut, mais ca n’est pas bon. I can speak a little French but it’s not that great. I could get by with it if I needed to though. I have no ambition to learn another language at this point in my life. My goals are elsewhere.
  11. What is your strangest hobby?
Strangest hobby? Hmmm… That’s a tough question! I don’t know if I have any “strange” hobbies like collecting my toenails or ear wax. All of my hobbies are pretty normal. Fitness, writing, reading, nature, travel etc. I do some mild cyberstalking from time to time? Is that a hobby? lmao

My Questions

  1. If you could choose anyone in the world to lead your country, who would it be?
  2. If you could go back to school to study any subject of your choice and not have to worry about finances, what would it be?
  3. What is one thing that you’ve never eaten that you’d like to try?
  4. What’s the strangest food you’ve ever eaten?
  5. If you could have a romantic getaway with one person for a weekend, (imagine you’re single, celebrities allowed) who would it be?
  6. What was the darkest movie or novel that you’ve ever fallen in love with?
  7. Do you like zombie movies?
  8. Would you ever consider being one of the first humans to go to Mars knowing that you could never return to Earth?
  9. Would you rather the beach or a mountain top?
  10. Who inspires you the most in the world?
  11. What is one of your favorite quotes?

  1. Thank you so much, for the nomination, Mathew! I’m deeply honored. I’m not rich, unfortunately, but Nepal is on my bucket list too, so if I ever win the lottery, write a best seller, or find out I have a rich uncle who leaves me his share of an estate, I promise to take you with me! 🤣🤣

Oh, & cyberstalking totally counts as a hobby!! Lol!

  2. Loved your answers, man! And thanks so much for responding! I actually laughed out loud on a view of them (wolves… 😂)
    PS
I’m with you on the rain—I think my dislike of sunny days is partly due to how blasted hot it is down here. 😂 A sunny winter day is fantastic.

      1. Yes! That’s actually a thing—we call them “Winter Texans.” I met a sweet couple from the north who rent an apartment every winter here in San Antonio. I met another couple who did the same but down on the beach.

  3. Hey!! Thank you for the nomination! I just did Sunshine Blogger Award a couple days ago after Sisira over at Officially Sparkle nominated me! I want to answer your questions too but I also don’t want to look like I’m pumpin’ my own tires!! Oh, the internal conflict!

  4. No, Mat, you’re favorite animal is so not obvious 😂

I was an 8 grader when 9/11 happened. A week later that day our town’s mayor which I liked told the story that he was in fact in the neighbor building when it happens. He’s a big (very plump) man, he admits this himself and he said that he never ran so fast in his life! And that moment he never even felt his fat flapping around. I love his humor. But that really is a tragic day.

I have both of those books! I bought Into the Wild years ago (still haven’t read it) and I got David Copperfield just yesterday because the first three sentence caught me.

Thanks for the nomination Mathew! ❤

  5. Hi! I’m Marcie from Prairie Chick! I would consider myself a lifestyle blogger. Thank you Mathew for nominating me and allowing me to answer the questions in your comments section! I just completed a Sunshine Blogger Award post a few days ago but I still wanted to answer some questions about myself. So here are the A’s to Mathew’s awesome Q’s:
If you could choose anyone in the world to lead your country, who would it be?
This is so hard. Humans are so easy to manipulate and are corruptible with that much power. Can I choose AI? Hah!

If you could go back to school to study any subject of your choice and not have to worry about finances, what would it be?

I’d probably go back to do hairstyling and yoga instead of completing my BHJ. I did it so I could get a “big girl” job but it was never my real passion. An interest, yes, but passion, no.

What is one thing that you’ve never eaten that you’d like to try?

I’d LOVE to try moose. I’ve heard it’s delicious and tender. I’m pretty crazy for wild game such as deer, duck and elk.

What’s the strangest food you’ve ever eaten?
I think some would think eating rabbit is strange? I thought it was delicious though!

If you could have a romantic getaway with one person for a weekend, (imagine you’re single, celebrities allowed) who would it be?
Can I still choose my husband? We haven’t had a romantic getaway for a while and it’d be nice to get away.

What was the darkest movie or novel that you’ve ever fallen in love with?
I would have to say The 120 Days Of Sodom and other writings by the Marquis de Sade. It was a real challenge due to the depravity of the story but he was a really good writer (and I would wager a guess a little crazy to write something that dark)

    Do you like zombie movies?
No I hate them. I already have a bit of a phobia for large groups of people. But large groups of undead people send me over the edge!

Would you ever consider being one of the first humans to go to Mars knowing that you could never return to Earth?
Definitely not! I would think there would be too much room for error (and making errors on Mars could prove fatal). I’ll go when it’s been terraformed.

Would you rather the beach or a mountain top?
    Mountain top for sure

Who inspires you the most in the world?
My mom. She worked crazy hard for my brother and I and made a lot of sacrifices. And she’s still a badass. I wish I was more like her!

What is one of your favorite quotes?
One of my favourite quotes is by Simon Sinek: If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader

    1. Thanks for participating Marcie 😀 I appreciate it. I just wanted to shine a little light on your blog, but I’m never offended if anybody decides not to participate. I really like how your mind works though and I find so much of what you say relatable. I think we would get along nicely

I especially loved that last quote. That’s a great one. Mountaintops over beaches any day. Never heard of that book or movie… I’ll have to keep an eye out for it.

      Take care! 😀

      1. Thank you Mathew! I liked answering the questions and thank you again for nominating me and sharing my blog!

And yes, if you find it and read it let me know how it goes! It’s a challenge to get through for sure!

  6. Your fave animal is a wolf?! Really? Well that’s new.
I wonder if English is taught differently in your school? As of now, we’re taking summary and note-taking since we covered all the other skills before. I used to love English, but now it isn’t as enjoyable. I don’t feel like I’m learning what I should be learning, yknow? What did you take as a junior?

    Nepal looks gorgeous 😍

And lastly, congratulations on the award!

    1. As a junior what does that mean? In high school? I’ve always liked English but I understand. At Uni I’m doing more reading when I wish I could be writing. In highschool I took lots of stuff but I was a slacker so I picked easy classes. Art drama English. Stuff like that
