Wild Poetry: My Crisp October Morning (Guest Poem by Kristian)

My Crisp October Morning

Who made the Earth?
The stars and the moon?
Who told the Sequoias to grow so tall?
And who made the raven?
This raven –
perched upon my fence post
singing her bird songs
and scanning the ground for worms
Swooping down to snatch one
and unhinging her jaw
as she slides her meal down her throat
before snapping her dark wings
and floating away
I don’t know exactly what a prayer is –
but I do know how to pay attention
How to gaze at the stars and the moon
in appreciation
How to kneel in the tall grass and the wildflowers
How to be idle and blessed
How to watch the leaves fall
to their inevitable death
Which is what I’m currently doing
on this crisp, October morning
sipping coffee
and staring out the window
with the day at my fingertips
waiting to be lived
Tell me, is there a better way to spend my day?
Because just like those falling leaves
doesn’t everything die?
And much too soon?
Tell me, how do you plan to spend your day?
Your remaining, precious life?

Wild Poetry

Thank you so much to my good friend Kristian for being my first guest poet on my new Wild Poetry weekly series. She’s one of my favorite story writers on WordPress, a great poet and just a generally awesome person to boot. Do yourself a favor and be sure to check out her blog and say hello! You’ll be happy that you did.

Would you like to submit a poem for a spot on the “Wild Poetry” series?
Well, we would love to hear from you!
Please submit your poem, as well as a small blurb about yourself and a link to your blog to blogofthewolfboy@gmail.com. Subject: Wild Poetry Submission.
All poetry is welcome, but preference will be given to those poems that leave us yearning for the natural world! Animals, landscapes, the human experience. Make it wild! Let’s share those poems that make us shake for something more.

  1. Reblogged this on Life Lessons From Around the Dinner Table and commented:
Happy Monday all of you beautiful souls! I hope you’re Monday was FANGtabulous (I told you, you’re just going to have to put up with my Halloween puns this month! )

My dear friend, Mathew author of Blog of The Wolf Boy asked me if I would be interested in writing a poem for his new guest post, wild poetry. I was honored that he asked me and deemed my worthy enough of a poet to be featured on his guest post, how could I say no? So, if you’d like to read it, click on the link, and do yourself a favor and check out Mathew’s original works, because he is an amazing poet and all around human being!

    Love & life lessons,
    Kristian
